Boettcher Hardware

-A A +A
1878. 1142–1148 Pearl St. Mall

Charles Boettcher, who built Colorado's largest and most diversified industrial empire, started out with this corner store and the slogan “Hardware, Hard Goods and Hard Cash.” Boettcher, a German immigrant, lived at 925 Pearl Street. After he moved on to Leadville and then Denver, the upper floor of his hardware store was converted to a theater, a frivolity on which he would have frowned.
