Winfield

-A A +A
1881–1912. Chaffee County 390, 4.5 miles west of Vicksburg (NR)

Set in an open mountain meadow, this town lacks the tree-shaded orderliness of Vicksburg, but the Clear Creek Canyon Historical Society has overseen equally diligent care of four cabins and the tiny, false-fronted frame Winfield Schoolhouse, now the Winfield Museum. Across from the schoolhouse-museum is the Ball Cabin, typical of early miners' homes.
