
Like the other squares of the 1790s, Liberty was roughly half the size of the Olgethorpe-era squares. The straightening of Montgomery Street as U.S. 17 in 1935 obliterated most of the square (together with Elbert and Franklin), leaving only a patch of green space in front of the Chatham County Courthouse (see 5.12) and another in front of the city parking garage across the street.
