
The fifth square along the Bull Street axis from City Hall, Monterey quickly acquired a status rivaling Johnson Square as Savannah’s most prestigious with the construction of the city’s second monument, dedicated to Casimir Pulaski (8.41). Attesting to its prominence, the square was the subject of a handsome view entitled Savannah, Ga., 1855, drawn by J. W. Hill and published by Endicott and Company of New York a year later.
