Horticulturist Thomas Affleck and his wife, Anna, lived in this one-and-a-half-story, five-bay frame residence with a side-gabled roof and a three-bay pedimented portico with a thermal window. The entrance derives from Asher Benjamin’s plate 29 in Practice of Architecture (1833) and features a single-leaf door flanked by sidelights and a fanlight with spandrels decorated with scrolls, all set within a frontispiece with an entablature, a dentiled cornice, and paneled pilasters with a Greek meander. Interior features include a wooden punkah in the dining room and marble mantels with freestanding columns. Affleck, who came to Mississippi in 1842 from Cincinnati, established a wholesale nursery and edited the Rural Almanac and Plantation and Garden Calendar from 1851 to 1861. He relocated to Texas at the beginning of the Civil War.
