Esperanza Acosta Moreno Regional Library

-A A +A
2006, IDEA. 12480 Pebble Hills Blvd.

Located at the far eastern edge of El Paso, the library was conceived as a focal point and identity for anticipated new communities of multinational, bicultural growth. A square plan is interrupted by an S-shaped core that rises above the low roof of the block as a sinuous clerestory, connecting a “Tech Cell,” a circular computer area, quiet reading areas, and four Herman Miller Action Office workstations. The core extends beyond the building to face the busy boulevard on one end and form an entrance lobby at the other end, facing the parking lot. Vibrant colors, fragmented planes, exposed ducts and framing, and unexpected spatial vistas create a much more dynamic experience than one might anticipate in a suburban branch library.
