This two-story former jail has a prominent front tower with a gallows that was never used. The ground floor accommodated the jail keeper, and the cells were upstairs. Unusually for its time, the jail was built with indoor plumbing. The soffits of the hipped roofs are carried on brackets, giving the jail an Italianate touch in keeping with the rest of the courthouse square.
