Chamberlain Observatory

-A A +A
1890, Robert S. Roeschlaub. 2930 E. Warren Ave. in Observatory Park (NR)

Humphrey B. Chamberlain, a wealthy real estate promoter and amateur astronomer, made a gift of this observatory to the University of Denver. The building, of rough-faced, random-coursed red sandstone with an iron dome, is an elegant combination of forms and styles. Roeschlaub's prototype was an 1887 observatory for Carleton College in Minnesota. In Denver he added gabled wings and a protruding entrance bay and had his name as well as the donor's carved into the linear pediment over the round-arched entry.
