The seat of LaSalle County, Cotulla was founded in 1881 by Polish immigrant Joseph Cotulla. The International and Great Northern Railway reached the town soon after it was established, providing the ranchers with access to distant markets for their livestock. Sheep and cattle ranching remain the county's economic base.
