Colorado Yule Marble Quarry

1880s. 4 miles south of Marble on Yule Creek Rd.

In 1990 the revived Colorado Yule Marble Company, headquartered in Denver, took a seventy-year lease from the Vermont Marble Company, which had owned the main quarry since the old Colorado Yule Marble Company (1905) went out of business in 1941. This huge underground quarry has provided stone for more than seventy-five structures in the United States, which are listed in Marble, Colorado: City of Stone (1970), by Duane Vandenbusche and Rex Myers. A steep, scenic dirt road leads to the fenced quarry, where tours are by special permission.
