Rooney Ranch

-A A +A
1860, Alexander Rooney. Rooney Rd. and W. Alameda Pkwy. (NR)

Rancher and stonemason Alexander Rooney constructed many of the fourteen structures on this 200-acre ranch, still owned by his descendants. Alexander built the two-story, front-gabled main house (1860) with 18-inch-thick walls of native sandstone quarried from the hogback behind the house. A small springhouse (1860s), barn (1890, enlarged 1936) with a gambrel roof, and other outbuildings are made of uncoursed rubblestone with uniform asphalt roofs.
