Elementary School–Community Center (High School)

-A A +A
High School
1896. 423 W. Columbia Ave. (northeast corner of Townsend Ave.)

Poor brick-work led to the collapse of an 1895 school, rebuilt as this two-story red brick and tan sandstone edifice notable for its central bay, whose round-arched entry is repeated in second-story and gable windows. A Quonset hut (1949) erected as a gymnasium has been the community center since 1967. A large rear addition (c. 1900) matches the original, even to a twin roof-top cupola.
