Moanalua Gardens

Once a thriving Hawaiian community, this area of expansive lawns and shady monkey-pod trees is a part of the 9,045-acre Damon family estate. The site was converted into a landscaped park at the turn of the twentieth century and, in 1924, the 29-acre parcel was designated a park open to the public. Two significant buildings, the Kamehameha V Summer Cottage (OA1.1) and the Chinese Hall (OA1.2), were moved to this site in 1959 from Damon lands at Mapunapuna to allow its commercial development.
