Schwertley House

-A A +A
c. 1900. 1981–1983, Robert Setterburg. 818 Clark Ave.

The architect has, with sensitivity and humor, remodeled an early twentieth-century cottage and brought it into the Postmodern world. The porch with pediment and columns has the atmosphere of a primitive hut in a folly that one might come upon in an eighteenth-century English or French Picturesque garden. The columns' capitals are mirrored boxes and the metal standing-seam roof is bright blue.
