The Clinton architect Phil Feddersen designed several well-carried-out interpretations of Frank Lloyd Wright's single-story Usonian schemes of the 1930s through the 1950s, of which this house is one. The McGauvran house is sheathed in brick. A hipped roof with a wide fascia/entablature seems to hold the house to the ground. Another example of this architect's Usonian designs is the Vandiren house (1961, 3800 Lakewood Drive). In that house the architect used limestone for the walls, again contained by a low, wide overhanging hipped roof.
