Zwemer Hall, Northwestern College

This two-and-a-half-story structure on a raised basement terminates the vista down Central Avenue. In the springtime the avenue is lined with beds of colorful tulips. Like the courthouse, Zwemer Hall is Richardsonian Romanesque, only it is a much more linear and vertical version of the style. A narrow eightsided tower projects forward from the lower entrance with a Richardsonian arch. The building's brick walls seem thin, an impression reinforced by the light-tan stone trim that projects out in front of the walls. The grounds of the college (founded in 1882) are, as with the other public and private gardens of Orange City, beautifully planned and maintained.
