  • First Federal Savings and Loan Building (David Gebhard and Gerald Mansheim)

A highly serious modern design, this building is almost Constructivist in concept. A lightly articulated wood and glass-sheathed box is posed over a lower indented volume of brick and glass. Diagonal turnbuckles ride across portions of the upper glass wall. The building is assertive and dignified; at the same time its scale is contextual with the adjoining buildings.
