Litchfield Manufacturing Company Building

1903. Northeast corner of Parker and Broadway streets

This is a design to warm the heart of an advocate of Postmodernism. It features an informal series of stepped gable fronts that seem to wander casually up and down the building's immensely long street facade. The facade is constructed of brick together with natural and artificial stone. The building is naturally lighted with some 600 windows filled with light-diffusing ribbed glass. The provision of natural light and ventilation plus other amenities was in part meant to produce a building for the “comfort, health, and pleasure of the employees.” 21 The company manufactured metal products ranging from manure spreaders to power feed grinders.
