Hemingway House

One of the “types” that were part of the Colonial Revival style in the 1920s and 1930s was the “rural farmhouse.” Often, as one finds in the Hemingway house, the format of a medieval picturesque English cottage has been simplified and clothed in Colonial Revival details. The Hemingway house is sided with white clapboard; there are small-paned double-hung windows, shutters, and an entrance with side lights. It reads as an easygoing, confident design set within a broad suburban landscape.
