Dutch Service Company Building

1926–1927. US 34, east side of town, alongside the railroad tracks

Here one will discover the remains of one of Harry Gholson's Dutch Mill service stations, which used to dot the highways of southern Iowa. The three-story mill structure, once complete with windmill blades, originally housed the facilities for the service station, as well as a small restaurant. There was a roofed service area in front. Eventually the mill was accompanied by 12 tourist cottages. 1 The former station has now been sheathed in aluminum siding and converted into a residence.
