The designer of this moderate-sized cottage with a hipped roof would seem to have played with a number of styles that were either just going out of vogue or just arriving around 1880. The roof supported on paired brackets, the posts and detailing of the side porch, and the treatment of the window headers look back to the Italianate. What entices one to examine the cottage more closely is the small entrance porch thrust into the corner of the building, and then the adjacent, quite unusual keyhole window. These two features transport one from the Eastlake into the then-developing Queen Anne.
