On the south side of the Usdan Student Center stands the Brown Social Science Center. Like other complexes at Brandeis, the center groups classrooms and offices of related academic disciplines. TAC sited the three buildings of this complex into an outcropping of massive boulders. The exposed concrete structures frame the mostly glass walls. The original plan to link all three by corridors and bridges was only carried out in two cases. On the east facade of Schwartz Hall is an abstract wall sculpture in brick. The west curtain wall recalls a similar motif found in the Bauhaus (1925–1926, Dessau, Germany), designed by Walter Gropius, founder of TAC.
