From its foundation burrowed into one of the high sand dunes that mark the southeastern shore of Lake Michigan, the gabled country house built for a Chicago family rises three-and a-half stories and encloses a five-thousand-square-foot plan. Its vertical tongue-and-groove cedar exterior siding is painted marine-blue. The house is a sophisticated twenty-first-century interpretation of vernacular rural housing.
