Design No. 33 in George F. Barber's Cottage Souvenir Number Two (1891) was the source for this intricate and fanciful Queen Anne house embellished by Henry Marzolf as he built it. Marzolf was a local carpenter builder who came to Reed City from Listowel, Ontario. This and the delightful wooden houses to the east and west, the Luin K. Parkhurst house (1891) and the Fred Atherton house (1891–1896) at 335 and 349 W. Upton Street, are further evidence of the lively wood building tradition of Michigan's former lumbering regions.
