Presque Isle Lodge

N. A. Eddy, owner of the Habitant Corporation of Bay City, built this large rustic lodge near Grand and Lotus lakes and filled it with rustic furniture manufactured by his company. The lodge is constructed of wooden slabs rounded to resemble logs. It is arranged with a dining room and a hall with a huge fieldstone fireplace and twenty-seven bedrooms. Fireside Inn (1908, 1930s; 18730 Fireside Highway) on Grand Lake further exemplifies the three-meal-a-day American-plan cottage and inn complexes patronized by midwestern families seeking relaxation and recreation annually for a week on northern Michigan lakes.
