Built in 1880 for a prominent Tuscola County citizen who became its state representative in 1901–1904, this house is notable for its Ontario-influenced decorative brickwork. Projecting sawtooth quoins, piers, window hoods, and friezelike bands executed in two colors of brick create an unusual mix of three-dimensional and chromatic effects on an Italianate cube with gabled ell. Two miles away at 5821 Dixon Road in Denmark Township is an identical house built for William Ellison, who came from Ontario in 1872.
