J and T Bar

This popular Basque restaurant and bar is housed in one of the many buildings moved to Carson Valley. Built in Virginia City, it was relocated about 1895, at a time when the Comstock Lode had been depleted but Carson Valley was growing. Though the building's facade and interior have been heavily altered, many of its decorative features are still visible. The facade's second-story has three elaborately framed windows. The front entrance leads into an open barroom that leads to a large dining room. Like Basque hotels throughout northern Nevada, this one served the local Basque community, providing room and board and functioning as a social center. Most of the hotels that have survived are operated only as restaurants today.
