Nye County Courthouse

The two-story Nye County Courthouse is a sturdy, rusticated stone structure with at least two features unusual in Nevada's architecture: it has an ornate Romanesque Revival entrance and a bullet-shaped metal dome. The five-bay facade has round-arched windows on the first floor and segmental-arched windows on the second. A simple denticulated cornice supports a pyramidal hipped roof, in turn surmounted by a dome with four dormers for vents. The courthouse has not been treated well over years of continual use. The county has marred the building with a series of concrete-block additions to the sides and rear, and with the installation of a steel-frame and glass vestibule that obscures the elaborate arched entrance.
