Bailey Bridge

Built to test the effects on transportation systems of the 37-kiloton “Priscilla” detonation of 24 June 1957, this bridge embodied various types of bridge structures erected atop concrete bases. Four pairs of reinforced concrete walls support separate steel superstructures. The concrete weathered the blasts fairly well and still stands, though sections of reinforcing bars are clearly visible. The steel fared worse; the superstructure is gone except for one section at the end.
