As Postmodern architecture passed from fashion, an angular, and sometimes playful, stacked massing of forms often took its place for institutional buildings. Here, color and line add interest to the complex massing and break down the building's large scale. As at many schools of this time period, an aluminum-ribbed, glazed canopy takes on an importance once given to elaborate portals. Inside, natural lighting from clerestory windows forms exciting patterns in the corridor. Bedford Elementary School is just one of a number of modern schools constructed in this fast-growing county.
