Nebo Lutheran Chapel and Cemetery

-A A +A
1887. W. Main St. (U.S. 6)

The simple Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church surveys the countryside from its perch atop Mount Jewett, just as Moses once looked upon the promised land from Mount Nebo. Patterned after Ersta Kyrka at Danviken near Stockholm, Sweden, it is a white frame octagon with rectangular extensions at the front and rear, and has a central cupola. Gothic-arched windows with clear panes and simple double-sash windows below them light the two-story-high sanctuary. The simple paneled double entrance doors are sheltered by a gable-roofed porch supported on narrow wooden posts. A large cemetery surrounds the church and slopes down the hillside.
