Cabela's marks the interconnection of distribution and demographics as the Nebraska-based mail-order retailer established this site as the center of its East Coast hunting audience. The building is what it looks like—a vast distribution center in the midst of a sea of parking that on a slow day has more than two thousand cars and RVs as well as dog runs and a stable for horses. The facade is marked by a gigantic western-style portico carried on immense stone piers. Inside is a vast woodlined hall in the middle of which is a “conservation mountain” ornamented with trophy critters that presumably met their demise at the hands of Cabela's outfitted hunters.
