Most of the remainder of the Shippensburg campus is the usual desultory array of statesponsored buildings—an admonitory lesson for every college that seeks its own identity. Breaking out of this mold is the engaging Luhrs elementary school with its obvious references to the sprightly modern of the Venturi office. This work from a small firm from Kutztown, who are still imbued with the Pennsylvania character of making buildings look like what they are, makes it worth pushing farther into the campus beyond the front ring of buildings.
