Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

This simple gable-fronted church is the oldest church in Juniata County. It was built by the county's only Episcopal congregation on land donated by William Thompson, who laid out the town, and paid for by General Louis Evans ( JU4). Reflecting Scots-Irish traditions in its simple masonry, it is distinguished by the Gothic windows that flank the entrance. It attests to the rude craft of early churches. The church was restored after flood damage caused by Hurricane Agnes in 1972. The original churchyard is behind the building.
