This one-story schoolhouse in the former village of Sodom was named for tavern owner Lot Carsen, who donated funds for its construction. Begun in 1812, but slowed by the war, the school was completed in 1817. Built of limestone in the octagonal or “inkwell” design favored for schoolhouses in the first half of the nineteenth century, it remained in use until 1915. After falling into disrepair the building was restored by the WPA in 1935.
