Designed by a Scots-born veteran of Addison Hutton's office, Robert G. Kennedy, its immense fanlight marks the transition toward the Colonial Revival that made the style a favorite in late-nineteenth-century Philadelphia at the moment when Philadelphians were turning toward genes rather than genius as the basis for their culture.
