Westview Street below Wissahickon Avenue reaches the edge of Fairmount Park. On it are sited houses by the most elegant designers of the 1920s, who made Philadelphia suburban synonymous with elite taste, including Tilden, Register and Pepper; Edmund Gilchrist; and Mellor, Meigs and Howe. Three of the last firm's finest houses are here, including the Robert McCracken house (1920) at 1009 Westview Street; the Morris Leeds house (1930) at 1025 Westview, a site previously owned by Leopold Stokowski, conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra; and Walter Mellor's own house (1926) at 6935 Scotforth Road.
