The Burlingame-Noon House was originally a five-bay Federal house of one and one-half stories only (the trace of its original roofline can be seen against the chimney). When enlarged to two stories, it was restyled in the Greek Revival mode by the first member of the Burlingame family to occupy it, as testified by the change from country Federal trim in downstairs rooms to Greek Revival upstairs (not open to the public). The rear ell dates to the same time. The Noon family's long tenancy in the house, from 1866 to 1971, accounts for the hyphenated label.
