Captain E. V. MacCawley House (Mist)

-A A +A
Mist
1889 and later, J. D. Johnston. 210 Racquet Rd. (at Walcott Rd.)

This long, narrow Shingle Style gambrel with a saltbox to the rear is fronted by an inset porch on skinny paired columns facing the water and centered with a window on either side. Later L-shaped additions of a gabled piece, then another gambrel, straightforwardly butt and jog against and from one another as semi-independent elements around a rock outcrop. The directness with which these additions were made and the resulting picturesqueness recall similar frankness in houses typical of Little Compton.
