North Smithfield Heritage Association (Forestdale School, officially Branch School, District 3)
The Forestdale Manufacturing Company (headquartered in neighboring Slatersville) contributed the land for what is now the most handsome extant example in the state of the one-room clapboarded High Victorian schoolhouse. A pair of replacement stairs climb to flanking doors capped by heavy, projecting hoods on ornamental brackets. Lesser bracketed heads enhance and decorate the windows, while sparse double brackets embellish the cornice. By such accent the Victorian monumentalized even the simplest building forms. The building's present tenant, the North Smithfield Heritage Association, beautifully maintains it.
