Hamilton Beattie House (The Stone Housde)

-A A +A
The Stone Housde
1917. Hooper and Moran. 43 Penny Pond Rd.

Well concealed, and more like the elaborately revivalist fantasies found on Aquidneck Island than the simpler country retreats of Tiverton and Little Compton, the Stone House was built, appropriately, by the owner of a local quarrying business. The hand-laid stonework of this rambling one- and one-and-one-halfstory house is of exceptionally high quality. In the English manor mode popular for big houses during the 1920s and 1930s, it was illustrated in one of the annual country house issues of Architectural Record (November 1924).
