West Greenwich Center Baptist Church

c. 1830. Plain Meeting House and Liberty Hill rds.

The two doors of this meeting house are dignified above by cornices and below by two granite slab steps in the simplest of pyramids—the lower step spreading to the ground, the upper narrowing to the width of the door. Between the horizontal stretch of the doors, a stack of two commonplace windows creates a vertical into the gable between the two doors. Everything is duplicated, very plain, but this image of bare essentials burns into the memory.
