Oakey Logan Alexander Center for the Creative and Performing Arts (Alexander Arts Center)

-A A +A
Alexander Arts Center
1969, Dean and Dean; Griffey and Stollo, associated architects; Frank G. Ackerman, architectural advisor. Northeast edge of campus, north of the Administration Building

Built at a cost of more than $2 million, this large, tripartite complex houses a theater, galleries, and facilities for instruction in visual arts. The design emphasized a flexible use of space, but the flat-roofed brick building with poured-in-place concrete trim makes little attempt at architectural flair. The architects were from Huntington, the associated architects were from Richmond, and the architectural advisor was from New York.
