Administration Building

The institution's first building was an impressive brick structure on a stone foundation, fronted by a tall clock tower. Charleston architect Harrison Albright designed the building, and Keyser builder W. A. Liller, who proudly illustrated it in his promotional brochure titled “By Their Fruits,” constructed it. A fire in May 1917 destroyed the building, but the present structure, which occupies the same basic footprint, soon replaced it. Essentially a classroom building, less imposing than its predecessor, the red brick Administration Building has abundant classical details executed in yellow brick and limestone. Davis, from Philadelphia, designed several buildings at West Virginia University at the same time he worked here.
