House

-A A +A
Second half of the 19th century. Northeast corner of 2nd and Jones sts.

This prodigious double house of hard-pressed brick rises three and one-half stories. Italianate and Second Empire details predominate, and gently swelling bays on either side of the central entrances rise three full stories to the cornice line. Above a dormered mansard roof, a large belvedere with bracketed cornice and its own mansard roof tops things off. The house obviously housed top-echelon managers and their families. Adjacent to the mansion, a new apartment building replicates some of its forms, notably the mansard roof.
