The Chamber of Commerce provides a southern anchor to New Martinsville's main commercial block, the east side of Main Street opposite the courthouse. For the most part, the block consists of early-twentieth-century brick structures, generally two stories tall. As happened in similar small-town commercial centers across the country, most first-floor storefronts were altered during the 1950s and 1960s. The c. 1905 Court Restaurant at 215 Main Street is a rare survivor of a typical small-town gathering place. The Rotary Club and Jaycees meet here, where photographs of former patrons, including governors, senators, and Jack Dempsey, line the walls.
