Old Stone Tavern

This is one of the oldest stone buildings in Smyth County and one of the few stone taverns surviving along the Wilderness Road (now U.S. 11). Frederick Cullop erected the two-story limestone hostelry to accommodate travelers on their western migration to the Cumberland Gap. Typical of early taverns, the facade is sheltered by a two-story gallery, though this one is unusual for its scalloped fascia. The three-bay building has exterior-end chimneys and modern replacement windows.
