The design for St. Paul's Episcopal Church is based on the Baltimore architect's plan for Christ Episcopal Church (WI20) in Big Stone Gap. There are only minor differences in some of the exterior details. St. Paul's cruciform plan, high hipped roof topped by a louvered belfry, deep eaves at the front supported by knee brackets, and pointed-arched windows with diamond tracery are unusual details for churches in the area.
