Set in spacious grounds, this elaborate two-story frame Queen Anne house was built for the Reverend C. R. Brown. Its complex roofline includes multiple gables and a three-story polygonal corner tower with a bellcast roof. A second-story one-bay central balcony adds to the facade's multifaceted composition. Paired attenuated columns carry the pedimented portico that is incorporated within a wraparound porch. The house has much in common with the John W. Carter House (HR13) in Martinsville, a George F. Barber mail-order design.
