West Main Street from Ridge Street to 7th Street and Surrounding Area

-A A +A

This part of Charlottesville has seen major changes in recent years. Originally, it was the city's prominent African American residential area; however, urban renewal in the 1960s wiped out a significant portion of the housing on Vinegar Hill, northeast of the current intersection of Main and Ridge. The area does retain some significant African American landmarks.
